Fostering Safe and Healthy Workplaces

Friday 29 August 2025

欧美AV has reached the three-year mark of its Fostering Respect Action Plan, which aims to build more respectful obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) workplaces and training environments.

The latest progress report shows that 欧美AV has completed 56% of actions identified to address bullying, harassment and discrimination, and cultivate professional behaviours.

Having a respectful workplace culture supports quality patient care and safeguards the health and safety of our O&G workforce, said 欧美AV President, Dr Gillian Gibson.

Progress in the last 12 months included:

  • Updating and expanding 欧美AV鈥檚 Clinical 欧美AV Whilst Pregnant Guideline to target pregnancy-related discrimination in training.
  • Participating in a cross-college project to develop consistent supervisor performance feedback processes.
  • Being an early adopter of the draft model accreditation standards recommended by the National Health Practitioner Ombudsman.
  • Contributing to the Australian Medical Council鈥檚 draft framework for managing concerns about accredited training settings.

鈥業鈥檓 pleased to see the ground shifting towards more systemic responses to unprofessional behaviour in healthcare,鈥 said Dr Gibson.

欧美AV has collaborated more than ever in the last year with regulators, other colleges and employers. Working together is essential to forging healthy cultural norms within our complex health systems. 聽We look forward to continuing this work with our members, trainees and partners.
